COPROEXNIC works closely with the CDCA, the non-profit Jubilee House Community and its project in Nicaragua. COPROEXNIC, started in 1995, works with organic farmers by providing technical and agricultural assistance and identifying and obtaining a market for the exportation of their products to the USA. In 2008 a ginning operation to gin and bale the organic cotton was set up. The gin has been installed next to the spinning plant to process organic cotton grown by COPROEXNIC farmers and employs 18 people seasonally. In 2010 the organic cotton program took off with 42 famers – including 2 women’s cooperatives – producing 181 mt of seed cotton. Growing cotton as part of their coop rotation has allowed participating farmers to increase their families’ annual income by an average of 43%.
