The Renewable Energy Co-operative (R-ECO) has become part of a ground breaking community project based in the heart of Cornwall. The 33 Million pound big lottery funded project, named Heartlands regenerated a dilapidated mining area in Pool Cornwall into a cultural playground for the local community and visitors. The Heartlands boasts business units, performance and events spaces, community facilities, a museum, local produce café and restaurant and residential accommodation and are striving to create a carbon neutral environment through the contribution of R-ECOs BIPV (Buildings Integrated Photovoltaic). Heartlands now boast a 65 KW BIPV system thanks to R-ECO which will produce 1.4 million KW in its 25 year lifespan. Abe Cambridge, R-ECOs technical director said Heartlands is a one-of-a-kind, amazingly innovative and ground breaking project. We are witnessing the transformation of an iconic bygone era without the loss of its integrity and replacing it with a new sustainable environment from a both social and technological point of view.
