The Community Food Co-op is a consumer-owned natural foods grocer with two locations serving Bellingham and Whatcom County with quality products. Both Community Food Co-op stores are full-service supermarkets and feature a full array of departments including certified organic produce, a full service deli cafe, in-house scratch bakery, wine shop, bulk foods, flower shop, health and wellness, mercantile, meat and seafood market, and espresso bar. Established in 1970, the Co-op provides ongoing support for local farmers through a nationally-recognized Farm Fund program and supports community organizations through a variety of donation programs. Food may be our middle name, but our first name is Community.
This video is part of Co+op, Stronger Together’s “Lights, Cameras, Co-ops” series sponsored by the National Co-op Grocers Association celebrating 2012 International Year of Cooperatives and hosted by celebrity chef Kevin Gillespie. In this episode, Kevin takes a lesson in food biodiversity at Bellingham’s Heritage Lane Farm. Their eclectic family of farm animals is made up of rare “heritage” breeds, which they raise to promote better livestock-raising practices and healthier meat for the Community Food Co-pp’s customers. Watch and you’ll quickly discover the many ways food co-ops, their shoppers and owners, and their communities are stronger together.
