This video was filmed as part of the “Lights, Cameras, Co-ops” series, sponsored by the National Co-op Grocers Association celebrating 2012 International Year of Cooperatives. Hosted by Chef Kevin Gillespie of the Woodfire Grill in Atlanta, GA, the 13-film series highlights food co-ops across the country, and displays the important roles they play in the lives of customers, members, farmers, and communities at-large. For the Putney episode, Kevin visits the Putney Food Co-op and talks with General Manager, Robyn O’Brien, about the rich history and economic impacts of the store. A surprise interview with Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin underlines the importance of the co-op in this small but vibrant community. Kevin also visits the cheese cave at Vermont Shepherd, a world-class farmstead cheesemaking operation right in Putney. There he samples the work of Yesenia and David Major, long time co-op shoppers and members whose famous sheep’s milk cheese is a co-op favorite. Video Copyright 2012, NCGA. www.strongertogether.coop
