HealthPartners is a US-based integrated health care organization, providing health care services and health plan financing and administration to more than 1.8 million members nationwide. Founded in 1957 as a cooperative, today it has grown to be the largest consumer-governed nonprofit health care organization in the nation. Since 1997, HealthPartners has leveraged its cooperative expertise to develop an innovative cooperative health insurance model for resource poor locations. With funding from the Cooperative Development Program at USAID, HealthPartners builds stakeholder capacity and facilitates regional network development, empowering members to access care and improve their health through health cooperatives. HealthPartners promotes a path to self-reliance and resilience. HealthPartners does not reinsure providers or subsidize premiums for cooperative members. HealthPartners cooperative model is sustained by stakeholders who invest in order to benefit.
